Alex Otti Partners With FG For The Proposed Diaspora Village To Be Built By His Government

Abia state government says it is aligned to President Bola Tinubu’s vision on provision of affordable housing to Nigerians .

Governor Alex Otti (OFR)stated this when he received in audience, a delegation of the Federal Housing Authority led by the MD/CEO, Rt Hon Oyetunde Ojo who visited him.
He said the housing vision of Mr. President is in line with that of Abia state.

Governor Otti said the state will show sufficient interest in the proposed federal housing project in Abia, stressing that , the importance of shelter which is part of the 3 most important needs of man cannot be over emphasized.
He disclosed that his administration has already identified a location for the proposed diaspora village to be built by his government.

He thanked the President for the decision to ensure that Nigerians have roofs over their head and particularly for assuring that contractors for the building of the federal housing project would be locally sourced.

He equally expressed joy that the Federal Housing Authority is consulting with states to know what exactly the states want in terms of housing, adding that it is the best approach for achieving an acceptable housing project.

“Our agenda for evolving the ‘Diaspora Village’ project and provision of affordable housing aligns perfectly with the vision of the federal government.
We will be setting up the structure for them and a system that would allow them to pay on installments to own a house in the Diaspora Village.

“We are very much open to partnering with the federal government on increasing affordable housing for the citizens. I can assure that you won’t be short of off-takers, because the state government will show sufficient interest by off-taking the house and deal with it locally.

Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Federal Housing Authority, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo stated that housing is keen to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He disclosed that their visit was to intimate the Governor on the proposal of the federal government to acquire land and build affordable houses for Abians.

He said the President identified that there is deficiency in shelter in Nigeria and is willing to provide affordable housing for Nigerians.

According to him, the plan is to meet with state Governors and redesign together, the kind of housing to be built in each state, saying that the inputs of the Governors is important to the project.

“There is a serious deficiency in the availability of affordable housing for the citizens and the FG is making efforts to address it. The Renewed Hope Agenda provides for the operation of a housing initiative. This initiative would be used to address the affordable housing deficiency in the country.

“We want to sit down with you and redesign together on the kind of housing that will be in line with the needs and preferences of the people of Abia. We want to synergize with Diaspora Commission, Tourism and Abia Government to execute this project, so that people outside can buy this property”,he said.
