HOS Says Staff Training Is Panacea For Improvements And Achieving Set Goals

...Calls For Inclusive Participation 



Th e Abia state Head of Service, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Obioma has declared open the first ever seminar organised for the staff of the Abia state Sports Council with a charge for the training to be an inclusive and participating one.

Declaring the seminar open at the Umuahia Township stadium, with the theme, “The roles and expectations of Abia State sports council in sustaining the present developmental strides in sports in Abia state”, the Head of Service said the workshop would upgrade the capacity of the staff.

Dr. Obioma stressed that capacity building for the workforce in Abia state is in line with the policy thrust of governor Alex Otti.

“It is an event that would upgrade your capacity the more. When we talk of development and upgradimg, there is no other way it can happen except through capacity building.

“This is in line with the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti OFR, which is to generate and to establish a workforce that is competent, professional enough and willing, dedicated to see that we move forward.

“Make it (the seminar) very interactive to really create an impact at the end of the training and then bringing these crop of civil servants to limelight of being good leaders, good coaches and administrators wherever they find themselves” Dr. Obioma stressed.

She applauded the Director of Sports and his management team for coming up with the training and appreciated the achievements made by the Abia state sports council within a short period and enjoined them to keep making Abia state proud through their sporting activities.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Nwaobilor Ananaba represented by Mr. Eric Asumogha said that the resolve of the Dr. Alex Otti led administration to make Abia a sports destination remains unchanged.

Mr. Ananaba, who identified training as panacea for improvements and achieving set goals emphasised that everyone has a role to play in sustaining sports in the state.

In his keynote address, the deputy chief of staff and senior special assistant to the governor on sports Mr. Chinedu Ekeke tasked the participants to identify young talents in the state, encourage them and ensure they become their better successors.

The senior special assistant on Sports, who spoke through Mr. Raymond Ukwa urged the participants to leverage on the evolution of sports to contribute to the economic growth of the state.

In his speech, the State Director of Sports, Comrade Obioma George said that the seminar is necessitated by the need to sustain the strides already made by members of the Sports Council under the leadership of governor Alex Otti.

Comrade George listed various strides of the Council to include wining gold and silver medals in para power lifting, para badminton, gido, table tennis, taekwondo , basketball, volleyball as well as growth in individual officials in Abia Sports Council with some of them being recognized beyond the shores of Africa.

The Director of Sports, who highlighted some challenges of the Council and appealed for assistance also appreciated governor Otti for reviving sports in the state and making them to bounce back in sports. He particularly saluted governor Alex Otti for approving the hosting of the the first ever secondary schools competition held in March this year. and assured that the Council would continue to make Abia proud.
