Governor Otti Seeks The Support Of Aba Sports Club To Make Aba A Clean Environment

The Governor of Abia State His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has called on the members of Aba Sports Club to help his administration keep Aba clean and running. Gov. Otti made the call on Friday 8th March, during the inaugural ball & award night and the inauguration of Sir Chris Agbo, KJW, as the 67th President of the club.

The Governor said, “The cream de la cream of this great town Enyimba belongs to this place. I have a request to make of all of you. I’m happy that everybody is listening. You see all the works that we are doing in Aba, you see all the drainage that we are desilting and cleaning, you see all the garbage and rubbish that we are carting away; you see all the efforts and sleepless nights to make Aba be that clean city that it was meant to be; so all these works will become useless if our people do not help to maintain, clean their environment, desist from throwing rubbish inside the gutter, leave the streets and go back to their shops and leave the town sparking clean.
“We have to start it from here, practice it, and then enforce it in our households and anywhere we have business. So my appeal is that we don’t want to use force, but we will apply reasonable force when the need arises.”

Gov. Otti shared the observation of Vice President Sen. Kashim Shetimma when he visited Aba recently for the commissioning of the Geometric Integrated Power Project. He said, “I was glad when the Vice President came the other day and he made an expression which I am going to share with you even though not with his permission. He said he was surprised at the cleanliness and order he found in Aba. He said that stories that used to come out of Aba were something different but as at that Monday, he said his mind had changed about Aba.” Dr. Otti disclosed that he does want what the Vice President Observed to be a flash in the pack but wants it to continue.

“If you fly above Aba in a Chopper you will be amazed at the planning and the thinking that went into the design of the City. There is probably no other city in the country that is that well designed, so we must maintain what we inherited. If you can keep Aba Sports Club for 98 years running, everywhere sparkling, the best of us are here, then I believe that we can also keep Aba running,” Gov. Otti explained.

He also encouraged the people to help inspect and monitor ongoing government projects around them to ensure that the right things are done by the contractors, where they observe that the contractors are not doing the right things; they should inform the government because the government will not be there all the time to monitor them. He assured that the contractors were carefully selected based on capacity.

Dr. Otti congratulated Sir. Chris Agbo on his emergence and inauguration as the 67th President of Aba Sports Club and Promised to support the club and help the new leadership to execute some of the proposed projects enumerated by Sir Agbo in his inaugural speech.
“So, let me return to Sir Chris Agbo, thank you for that well-researched speech and we have taken note of all the items you have listed there. On my own as a member of this club and then as a grand patron, I will pick some of the items there and deal with them. It is not in our character to make public pledges but whatever we say we will do it,” the Governor assured.

Aside from the inauguration of the new president, the event also featured awards to some accomplished individuals which include Mr. Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu former and the 50th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The event drew the presence of captains of industries, top businessmen, and government officials like Ide John Udeagbala – the Chairman/CEO of Udeagbala Holdings and Mayor of Aba North Local Government, the Mayor of Aba South Local Government, Hon. Uche Wogu, the Mayor of Obingwa, Dr. Eric Egwuibe among others
