Governor Otti Commiserates With Late General Aguiyi-Ironsi’s Family As Daughter Is Laid To Rest Amidst Tears In Umuahia


The remains of the daughter of the late Nigeria Supreme Commander and Head of State, Lady Caroline Aguiyi – Ironsi was laid to rest today, Saturday 17th February 2024 at Umuanna Village, Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, FNSE, described the late Lady Caroline Aguiyi-Ironsi as a woman of substance with a heart of gold, pure and natural.

Governor Otti posited that the late Caroline was a truly caring woman who touched the lives of so many with her kindness, warmth, and compassion. He called on the family to remain strong and look forward to the positive side of life in recognition of the legacy of love and generosity exemplified by the deceased.

Responding on behalf of the family, former Minister of Defence and son of late General Aguiyi-Ironsi, Amb. Thomas Aguiyi Ironsi thanked Governor Otti for identifying with the family during this trying period and prayed for God’s wisdom and good health to enable him deliver on his ongoing people-oriented programmes evident in the state.

Deputy Governor Emetu was accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini, Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, and Investment, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, and the Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Amb. Okey Emeuche, MFR.

Late Carolin Aguiyi-Ironsi was aged 68 and is survived by a daughter, Chidera Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, sisters, brothers, and other close relatives.
