In upholding his open and transparent leadership mantra, with a view to deepening democracy and ensuring more people-oriented development in all spheres of the state economy, the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti, further engaged the good people of Abia State as he interacts with journalists on the activities of his government.

The media engagement captioned “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians” is a monthly no-hold-bared interface that highlights major strides of the administration and provides clarity on programmes of the government led by His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti.

From Infrastructure to Education, Health, Agriculture, Industrialisation, Job Creation, Security and general economic development, the Governor is always poised and prepared to take questions and provide answers to them.

The Governor, Dr Alex Otti says his administration will continue to identify with programmes and policies geared towards impacting positively on the lives of the people and insisted that all his government is doing is to leave the state better than he met it.

The Governor disclosed that his administration has started the retrofitting of 13 schools per LGA; 10 primary schools and 3 secondary schools to meet basic standard requirements.

The state chief executive said that the administration in an effort to make the teaching profession more attractive has increased the retirement age of teachers from 60 to 65 years and is introducing a discriminatory compensation package among other packages for teachers in the state.

On Health, the governor said his administration has ensured that health facilities in the state are given a facelift to meet the growing health needs of the people and has also appointed seasoned health practitioners to man various health institutions in the state.

According to governor Otti, his government has commenced processes to set up the Abia Medical Village with the aim of reversing medical tourism from overseas to Abia, pointing out that the project is receiving serious support from Nigerians in diaspora.

On road infrastructure, the governor noted that that a total of 70 roads have been maintained, 10 commissioned while 20 roads are under construction, adding that 4 recently completed roads will be commissioned soon.

The state chief executive said his administration is currently engaging with the management of NDDC on abandoned project across Abia with a view to ensuring that the projects are given priority attention.

In the area of agriculture, governor Otti said his administration is currently working towards disentangling various agricultural estates in the state from their concessioneers to enable government take over and revitalize them to meet the needs of the people.
“We are trying to follow due process on developing agriculture estates. The challenge is to disentangle concessions made by previous administration with those estates”

The Governor also announced that the Abia Security Advisory Council will be inaugurated Tuesday next week with the former Chief of Army staff Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika (Rtd) as Chairman and other security experts from Abia state as members while the Abia State Security Trust Fund will also be inaugurated same day to support a robust security architecture in Abia. The governor also announced that he would soon set up Disability Commission to cater for people living in disabilities, who he assured would surely be taken care

of.
