Abia NLC In Nationwide Peaceful Protest

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Abia state chapter led by their Chairman, Comrade Ogbonnaya Okoro carried out the directive of its National body led by Comrade Joe Ajaero to embark on a peaceful protest, that is against the Nigerians and the labour force, informing the federal government and Abia state government that enough is enough.

The Abia workforce led by Abia NLC said that Nigerian workers are fed up with the policies of the excruciating federal government that has reduced workers and citizens to paupers.

According to him, with the removal of the Petroleum subsidy, everything has gone with the subsidy, including pure water.

“We can no longer fold our hands, we have a message for the government, we are not begging, it’s our right to live, a worker deserves his wages”, Okoro said.

They said that they are sad that the state government could not actualize her campaign and Inaugural speech promises to the Abia workers and pensioners to clear the accumulated Abia worker’s salary arrears and pension/gratuity arrears at the end of 2023 amidst the unbearable level of inflation in the country and the attendant high cost of living, this trend has imposed on Nigerians.

They said that after this peaceful protest if nothing is done by both the state government and the federal government, workers will have no other option than to pay back

the country through strike action.

In his remark, the Governor of Abia state, Dr. Alex Otti, who was represented by his Special Assistant on labor matters, Mr. Godson Ajuzie thanked the workers for embarking on peaceful protest and promised that the state government is working hard towards solving the problems of Abia workers and promised to hand their protest message to the governor.
