THE ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT HAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT WILL COMMISSION THE 1.2 KILOMETER OBEHIE ROAD, CONSTRUCTED BY THE ABIA STATE OIL PRODUCING AREAS DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (ASOPADEC), IN JUST TWO DAYS.THIS WAS REVEALED BY THE COMMISSIONER FOR INFORMATION AND CULTURE, PRINCE OKEY KANU, DURING A BRIEFING WITH JOURNALISTS AFTER THIS WEEK’S EXCO MEETING, WHICH WAS PRESIDED OVER BY GOVERNOR ALEX OTTI.THE COMMISSIONER REVEALED THAT PLANS ARE UNDERWAY BY THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO COMMISSION SEVERAL OTHER ROADS, INCLUDING EMELOGU, UMUIMO, CEMETERY, AND UDEAGBALA ROADS SOON.TO PREVENT FLOODING, PRINCE KANU SAID THAT THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION HAS INITIATED DRAINAGE DESILTING PROJECTS IN VARIOUS AREAS OF ABA.THE COMMISSIONER DISCLOSED THAT EFFORTS ARE ALSO UNDERWAY TO RECLAIM GOVERNMENT PROPERTIES THAT HAVE BEEN TAKEN OVER BY PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS AND ADDED THAT THE PROCESS OF RECOVERING THE ABA MASTER PLAN IS NEARLY COMPLETE.Abia Government to unveil 1.2km Obehie Road, set to commission several additional roadsHE EMPHASIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF REVIEWING EXISTING STRUCTURES IN MARKETS AND PUBLIC FACILITIES TO PREVENT BUILDING COLLAPSES, AS EXPERIENCED RECENTLY IN EKEOHA SHOPPING PLAZA ABA.“THERE’S A MOVE TO ENSURE THAT STRUCTURES IN ABA AND OTHER PUBLIC FACILITIES ARE REVIEWED TO ENSURE THAT WHAT HAPPENED IN EKEOHA SHOPPING PLAZA NOT TOO LONG AGO DOES NOT REPEAT ITSELF”, KANU SAID.IN HER CONTRIBUTION, THE COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION, PROF EME UCHE SAID ABIA WILL HOST THE 82ND JOINT CONSULTATIVE PLENARY MEETING ON EDUCATION FROM SEPTEMBER 4TH TO 8TH WITH THE THEME; ADDRESSING POLICY IMPLEMENTATION;A PANACEA FOR AGENDA 2030,WHERE ISSUES OF POLICY IMPLEMENTATION WITH FOCUS ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS WOULD BE DISCUSSED.SHE ADDED THAT THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION WOULD SOON EMBARK ON RE-ACCREDITATION OF SCHOOLS IN THE STATE, HAVING TRAINED 80 EDUCATION INSPECTORS TO ENSURE THAT PRIVATE SCHOOLS MEET THE REQUIRED GOVERNMENT’S MINIMUM STANDARDS.ALSO CONTRIBUTING,THE COMMISSIONER FOR ENVIRONMENT, MR. PHILOMON OGBONNA ANNOUNCED THAT GOVERNOR ALEX OTTI WILL PERFORM THE GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR THE ABIA INDUSTRIAL INNOVATION PARK IN OWAZA, UKWA WEST LGA, ON SEPTEMBER 6TH.Abia Government to unveil 1.2km Obehie Road, set to commission several additional roadsOGBONNA STATED THAT THE PROJECT WHICH IS DRIVEN BY THE PRIVATE SECTOR, WILL HOUSE MANUFACTURING AND INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES, INCLUDING AN INCUBATION CENTER AS WELL AS A MODULAR REFINERY, MAKING IT ONE OF THE LARGEST IN WEST AFRICA.THE COMMISSIONER FURTHER POINTED THAT THE PROJECT WOULD AMONG OTHER THINGS ATTRACT INVESTORS AND GENERATE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE, ADDING THAT ALREADY INVESTORS HAVE INDICATED INTEREST TO PARTNER WITH THE ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT.THE SPECIAL ADVISER TO THE GOVERNOR ON ABA REJUVENATION, MR. UCHE UKEJE, CLARIFIED THAT THE RECENT SEALING OF SCHOOL PREMISES IN ABA WAS DUE TO A BREACH OF AGREEMENT FOR WHICH THE PROPERTY WAS EARLIER APPROVED AND STRESSED THAT GOVERNMENT ALEX OTTI IS FOCUSED ON RECOVERING EVERY ASSET BELONGING TO GOVERNMENT THAT WERE FRAUDULENTLY CONVERTED TO PRIVATE USE.
