Abia And Anambra Teams Win As The South East, South South Volleyball Championship Ends In Umuahia 


The maiden edition of the South East/South South Volleyball tournament has been rounded off in Umuahia with Abia state clinching first position in the male category while Imo and Anambra states finished 2nd and 3rd positions.

Ananmbra state came first and Bayelsa and Rivers states took 2nd and 3rd positions in the female category.

Speaking at the event , Governor Alex Otti assured that his administration would keep doing everything possible to develop sports in Abia state.

Governor Otti represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Nwaobilor Ananaba said the state is committed to ensuring that it achieves the goal of making Abia a sports destination. He revealed that the athletes were discovered from the grassroots.

Governor, who congratulated the organizers of the competition thanked the staff of the Abia Sports Council for providing enabling environment and appreciated the Vice President of the Volleyball Association of Nigeria for pitch she donated.

Also speaking, the Vice President, Volleyball Association of Nigeria and Chairman Volleyball League Management Committee, Mrs. Nkechi Ezeugwue while congratulating the participants for their passion in the game, urged them to continue to pursue their dreams. She thanked governor Alex Otti for sponsoring the game and requested that it is made an annual one.

Earlier in his address, the Abia State Director or Sports , Mr. George Obioma thanked the Volleyball famiky for their efforts in developing Volleyball in the South East and South South. He expressed joy that the state demonstrated the hospitality that Abia is known for in hosting the tournament

The event featured presentation of awards to the winners and teams that partipated in the game as well as commissioning of the beach volleyball pitch at the stadium
