Abia Alex Otti Calls On Alma Mater Of Various Institutions To Impact The Schools And Society Positively


Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has stressed the need for old boys association of various institutions to always give back to their alma mater as a way of impacting the society positively .

The governor was speaking when he received in audience a delegation of the National Executive Council of the Government College Umuahia Old Boys Association who called on him in Government House , Umuahia.

Governor Otti, represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba said that no system can develop except those who have benefitted from it learn to give back and expressed joy that Government College Umuahia old boys association members are doing a lot to impact their alma mater positively.

He regretted the neglect and decadence in the state’s education sector before the assumption of office as the state governor last year but revealed that today, majority of the schools taken over by individuals have been recovered and handed over to their rightful owners.

According to him, no nation can make a headway without education, adding that it is for that reason that his administration is demonstrating the vision to fix the education sector.
He also disclosed that in addition to retrofitting model schools, a total of 210 pubic primary and secondary schools across the 17 LGAs in the state have been earmarked for rehabilitation this year.

Governor Otti, who said that he is committed to fixing education in the state said his interest in education made him to allocate 20 percent of the total 2024 annual budget to education. He added that security has continued to be one of the cardinal objectives of his administration.

The governor appreciated the old boys of Government College, Umuahia for joining in his vision to transform the education sector and assured them of the state government’s support.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the governor on Project Monitoring and Evaluation and an alumnus of the school assured of the sustained support of the old boys of the school to governor Alex Otti to ensure that his vision for the state is actualized. He added that the institution would continue to produce great minds that would keep impacting the society positively.

Earlier, the National President of Government College Umuahia Old Boys Association, Dr. Chinedum Ahaiwe sought for continuous partnership with the state government in security and reconstruction of the fence of their alma mater to ensure the fencing project would not be stopped by those who had attempted to encroach the land.

Dr. Ahaiwe said that what they are doing in the school is giving back to the society.
He thanked governor Otti for his transformative works and infrastructural development in the state and the restoration of the school’s land. He appreciated the governor for appointing experts including their members in his government.
