The Abia State House of Assembly has summoned the representative of the State at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to appear before it on 8th of February, 2024.

The resolution followed a Matter of Urgent public importance moved by the member representing Ohafia South State Constituency Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke regarding the abandoned roads projects in his constituency, Ohafia South.

The Lawmaker described the abandoned roads linking Asaga Ohafia in Abia State to Usukpam in cross river state through Amangwu,and another also from Asaga to Etono Cross River State through Eziafor as death traps for commuters.

Reacting to the prayers of the member representing Ohafia South, Hon. Kalu before the House on the gravity of the ugly situation by other members of the 8th Assembly, the speaker Rt Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa passed a resolution to invite the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) representatives in Abia State on February 8th, 2024 to provide insights into the reasons behind the abandonment of these crucial infrastructure projects.

Thereafter, the Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs – Hon Anthony Chinasa Abiola (Umuahia Central) read a petition by Eze Augustine Kalu of Ohafor Abam Autonomous Community which bothered on his removal and failure to appear before the house. He appealed that the house should revisit his case with a view to giving him a second chance to appear before the house for a fair hearing.

The petition was thereafter referred back to the committee on local government and Chieftaincy matters which was mandated to reinvite parties to the petition for fair hearing

The house further received the report by the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry on the petition by Akwaete/Nsulus Textile Dealer on the encroachment and constant traits to lives by Akwaete/Nsulus Livestock Dealers dates 3rd October, 2023. The report was read by Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee while the house committed the report to the committee of the whole for further consideration.

The House through Mr. Speaker commiserated with the traders of Ngwa Road Market at Aba whose shops were gutted by Fire few days back. He commended the Governor for his quick intervention via his visit to the Traders at the Market.

The house adjourned plenary to reconvene tomorrow, Wednesday January 31st, 2024 by 10:00am.
